How am I billed for storage usage?

We bill you on a monthly basis for the storage space you use. Our billing is based on the peak usage of data you store during the billing period.

What does “billed based on peak usage” mean?

Rather than charging you continuously throughout the month, we calculate your bill using the maximum storage amount (in GiB) recorded at any point during the month. This ensures that you are billed fairly based on the highest demand placed on our system.

Example:

  • If you use 100 GiB for most of the month, but at one point your storage peaks at 120 GiB, your bill for that month is based on 120 GiB.

Why do you use peak usage for billing?

  • Fairness: Peak billing ensures you are charged for the maximum capacity you needed, not just the average usage.

  • Predictability: This method simplifies billing by removing the need for continuous tracking and averaging.

  • Incentive for Efficiency: Customers who optimize their data usage and avoid unnecessary spikes can benefit from lower bills.

We choose this method because of the the straightforward nature of peak usage billing. Our goal was to remove ambiguity from the billing process. Our customers know that their final bill will reflect the maximum storage they needed at any point in the month, making it easier to reconcile their usage patterns with the charges.

We understand that while each billing model has its pros and cons, we feel that peak usage billing provides a better level of clarity and simplicity that can be beneficial for customers who prefer predictable billing and are willing to manage their data usage to avoid transient spikes.

How is the peak usage determined?

Our system continuously monitors your storage usage. At the end of each billing period, the highest recorded value in GiB is used to calculate your monthly fee.
